(b) Any one of several American flounders somewhat resembling
the true sole in form or quality, as the California sole
(Lepidopsetta bilineata), the long-finned sole
(Glyptocephalus zachirus), and other species.

Merlucius bilinearis

(Zool.)
One of several species of marine gadoid fishes, of the genera
Phycis, Merlucius, and allies. The common European hake
is Merlucius vulgaris; the American silver hake or whiting
is Merlucius bilinearis. Two American species ({Phycis
chuss} and Phycis tenius) are important food fishes, and
are also valued for their oil and sounds. Called also
squirrel hake, and codling.

jury, part Englishmen and part foreigners, to give a verdict between an
Englishman and a foreigner. Vide Medietas Linguae, Plowd. 2. It is abolished
in Pennsylvania. Act April 14, 1834, Sec. 149.
