bear plumes on the back. They are generally white. Among
the best known species are the American egret ({Ardea
egretta} syn. Herodias egretta); the great egret ({Ardea
alba}); the little egret (Ardea garzetta), of Europe;
and the American snowy egret (Ardea candidissima).
