the formula C14H22O, forming the essence of the violet
fragrance, commonly isolated from orris oil or from the
rhizomes of Iris. The main ingredient in violets is
[alpha]-irone, which occurs as both cis and trans
stereoisomers. Called also 6-methylionone.
