Any marine bivalve shell of the genus Mactra, and allied
genera. Many species are known. Some of them are used as

seacoast, especially those of the family Mactridae, as the
common American species. (Mactra solidissima or {Spisula
solidissima}); -- called also beach clam, and surf clam.
