Any one of numerous species of longwinged sea birds belonging
to the family Procellarid[ae]. The small petrels, or Mother
Carey's chickens, belong to {Oceanites}, {Oceanodroma},
{Procellaria}, and several allied genera.

chiefly inhabit the southern hemisphere.
